A new approach to computing sampling probabilities in population genetics models with recombination

For a given population genetics model with recombination, the probability of observing a sample of DNA sequences plays a fundamental role in various problems in genetic analysis, but obtaining a general closed-form formula for the sampling distribution has so far remained an intractable problem. However, it is possible to obtain useful analytic results when the recombination rate is moderate to large, by applying asymptotic methods such as Padé summation. In this talk, I will describe our recent progress on this new approach to computing sampling probabilities.
